Crunchyroll Expo’s Big Week of Announcements: Akira Himekawa
Manga creator duo A. Honda and S. Nagano first teamed up under the pen name “Akira Himekawa” in 1987 to release fan comics at Japan’s Comiket. In 1991 they made their publishing debut with Honoo wa Kaze no Na no Gotoku in Shonen Big Comic Zokan.
From 1998 to 2008, the duo authored 10 volumes of manga adapting Nintendo’s The Legend of Zelda games including The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Majora’s Mask, Oracle of Seasons, Oracle of Ages, Four Swords, The Minish Cap, A Link to the Past, and Phantom Hourglass. In 2011, they created a prologue manga for The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword. Meanwhile in 2003, they authored manga adapting the 2003 Astro Boy anime.
In 2010, the duo won the Sheikh Zayed Award in children’s literature for their Arabic manga GoldRing, along with the Sondermann Reading Award for Best Manga in the International Manga category for The Legend of Zelda. In 2013, they released the My Little Pony manga, published by Shogakukan.
Their latest The Legend of Zelda manga, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess Vol.1, was released in 2016.
